St. Patrick’s School is often credited with laying the successful foundation children need to succeed academically and in life. The school’s K through sixth grade program has indeed been very successful in producing well-rounded children who received an outstanding education and received the moral values that are often ignored in today’s society. We decideded to build on our outstanding reputation by offering a Pre-K program.. Principal Peg Brown said St. Patrick’s decided to expand its programs for two reasons. First, there is a high demand for Pre-K in Madison and Oneida counties and many existing programs are so restrictive, that families, who want to give their children a leg up, are not eligible to enroll. The second reason, Miss Brown said, is because she believes a Pre-K at St. Patrick’s offers families the academic start they are looking for, but, in a more nurturing environment. St. Patrick’s has always been known for the excellent education our students receive, Miss Brown said. And the other facet to that, which is just as important, is that we teach children in an environment that is loving, nurturing, and allows for strong parent participation. These are factors that are ideal for a four-year-old entering a Pre-K program, she said. Miss Brown said the program will adhere to the same principles as the K through sixth program. There will be a strong emphasis on learning, with early reading, writing and math skills as priorities. “This will not be a daycare program,” Miss Brown said. “This will be a program that will teach children the basics they need to be successful and have a head start for their elementary school experience.” Registration for the Pre-K program is currently underway. Parents will have the option of a full five-day a week schedule or a half-day schedule. There is a morning program available for 3-year-olds as well. Interest in St. Patrick’s Pre-K program has been very strong. The class size will be limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
